Justice M Nirmal Kumar passed the direction on hearing the plea by Ramesh seeking bail in the case relating to the death of Govindaraj, an employee in his cashew nut factory in Panruti. The MP claimed that the suicide case was altered into a murder case since complainant Senthil Vel, son of the deceased, played to the tune of his political opponents.

Since CB-CID has been dealing with the case, it submitted to the court that granting bail to the accused would disturb the probe. “The inquiry has not been completed. As the accused is an influential person, he would tamper the materials and evidence,” the CB-CID submitted.

Senthil Vel argued that he was not satisfied with the probe by the CB-CID as it was going at a slow pace. “Since I have sought for a CBI inquiry related to the murder of my father, bail should not be granted,” he contended. CB-CID noted that it has to probe more people in the case.

On recording the submissions, Justice Nirmal Kumar directed the CB-CID to file a report on Thursday explaining the status of the inquiry including how many members will be probed.

The matter related to the death of Govindarajan (60), allegedly beaten to death for stealing seven kilograms of cashew nut from the farm of the DMK MP. On Oct 11, Ramesh surrendered before the Judicial Magistrate–II, Panrutti and has been under remand in Cuddalore sub-jail.
