Fear of milk scarcity on September 16

The association’s head Ponnusamy in a statement on Wednesday said that over 1.5 lakh milk dealers across the state would participate in the strike. The milk outlets and distributing units would be closed from 9 am to 5 pm, he added.

State and district secretaries of the association have been asked to participate in agitations and hunger strike planned by various associations, in which participation of more than 75 lakh small and medium sized enterprises is expected. He also advised the public to stock up on milk as there would be a fall by upto 50 per cent in the availability.

However, Aavin officials said that milk being an essential commodity would be provided to all consumers on the day of strike. They said that the daily supply of 11.7 lakh litres would be maintained that day.
