Family of three severely injured in cylinder blast

The accident occurred due to a gas leak at a house in Kelambakkam

The incident happened on Monday morning. The family of three - Iyappan (40), his wife Menaka (35) and their 4 year old baby were severely injured in the blast that wrecked their house. 

The members of the family were rescued and sent to KMC hospital. When Kelambakkam Police enquired about the accident, they came to know about leakage in the gas cylinder. When Iyappan tried to open the refrigerator, it triggered a huge blast. The cylinder has been safely removed. 

Both husband and wife suffered 90 per cent burn injuries and the child suffered 5 per cent injury. 

The initial investigation revealed the accident occurred due to quality compromise in the cylinder used by the victim.
