TIRUVALLUR: Police arrested a 30-year-old former employee of a shopping app for allegedly stealing a laptop from a delivery van that was to be delivered to a customer in Tiruvallur on Wednesday. The accused was identified as Chinna, a resident of Veeraraghava Nagar in Thalakancherry.

Anbu Chelvan (27), a delivery agent with a shopping app loaded all the items that needed to be delivered on Wednesday onto a loading van and completed several deliveries until mid-morning in and around Tiruvallur. At noon, he decided to stop for lunch at his house and parked the loading vehicle outside and went in to have food. “On returning, he continued to complete his deliveries but was horrified when he reached a customer’s house in Jaya Nagar and found that the laptop worth Rs 1.2 lakh he had to deliver was missing from the delivery van,” police said. He immediately lodged a complaint at Tiruvallur Town Police who began to go through the CCTV footage gathered from in and around Anbu Chelvan’s house. They soon found that a mystery man on a bike stole the laptop from the parked loading van and fled the scene. On investigation, it was revealed that the accused was Chinna, a former staff. “He had quit his job over salary related issues and he wanted to get back at his employers. So stealing expensive laptop was his act of revenge,” police said.
