Recently, a complaint was lodged about a laptop and wallet being burgled from a house in Taramani. The victim had written the PIN on the debit card itself, using which about Rs 20,000 was withdrawn from an ATM.

The Taramani police who registered a case combed the CCTV footage in and around the ATM from where the money was withdrawn. They then secured the suspects, identified as D Karthik (24) of Ayanavaram and R Karnan (20) of Chepauk.

Investigation revealed that the duo indulged in a series of housebreaking incidents in Taramani, and two mobile phones, a laptop and cash were recovered from them. Inspector Salairam Sakthivel said Karthik is an engineering graduate, who indulged in housebreaking as he found his income too meagre to take care of his needs.

After being arrested and lodged in jail earlier, Karthik learnt new tricks and formed a team with Karnan whom he met at the prison. The duo was remanded in judicial custody on Saturday.
