CHENNAI: A 66-year-old woman who returned from the United States of America (USA) via Dubai was arrested at the Chennai airport on Sunday based on a lookout circular issued against her name by the Dharmapuri district police.

The woman identified as Jagathambal had a pending case against her based on a complaint by her in-laws.

According to police, a case was registered against Jagathambal and four others by Krishnapuram police in Dharmapuri district on August 14, 2018 based on a complaint by M Gowtham.

Gowtham’s elder sister got married to Jagathambal’s son in 2012 and the couple along with her have been living in the USA.

Due to differences between the couple, they got separated and had filed divorce petitions in courts in the US. While the custody battle for the child was underway there, Jagathambal who had come from USA in 2017 had allegedly come with henchmen to her daughter-in-law's residence and threatened the family members asking them to make their daughter withdraw the petition. The henchmen also allegedly hurled petrol bombs at the Verandah.

According to Gowtham’s complaint, his family members were threatened at knifepoint by henchmen sent by the elderly woman.

Dharmapuri police had registered a case under various sections of IPC, including 307 (attempt to murder), 286 (negligent conduct with explosive substance) among others.

On Sunday, on her arrival at Chennai airport, she was detained and handed over to Dharmapuri police.
