The victim, Mariyammal, 58, who suffered serious injuries, was pillion riding with her husband Pazhani, 65, to their house near Red Hills from Uthukottai on Friday morning when the incident happened.

Police said they were nearing Almati on Tiruvallur High Road when the duo stopped them for ‘asking’ direction for an address.

As the couple was trying to direct them, one of them tried to snatch the four-sovereign gold chain from the woman’s neck. When she resisted, the criminals pushed both of them down and snatched the chain before speeding away. The injured woman has been admitted to a private hospital. Police said that a case has been registered at Cholavaram station and investigations are on.
