Eight-year-old girl drown in swimming pool in Chennai

Police sources said the girl, a second standard student, was the daughter of Biju, who works as assistant director in films.

In a tragic incident, an eight-year-old girl was drowned in a pool at Mugappair West today while learning swimming as part of a summer camp.

Police sources said the girl, a second standard student, was the daughter of Biju, who works as assistant director in films.

The girl was enrolled for a 15-day swimming course at a private centre as part of her summer vacation.

Today being her 12th day of the course, she came to the pool. While practicing, she inadvertently consumed a lot of water and started choking.

The trainer lifted her out of the pool and gave her first aid.

But the girl did not respond to the first aid and was rushed to a private hospital nearby, where she was declared dead.

J J Nagar Police have registered a case and are investigating.
