DVAC team raids Paranur RTO

Residents from various areas in the district, including Urapakkam, Guduvanchery, Maraimalai Nagar and Thiruporur have to get their vehicle registrations, driver’s license and vehicle registration renewal from this RTO office in Paranur.

CHENGALPATTU: Sleuths from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) unit conducted a surprise raid at the Regional Transport Office at Paranur in Chengalpattu on Friday.

Residents from various areas in the district, including Urapakkam, Guduvanchery, Maraimalai Nagar and Thiruporur have to get their vehicle registrations, driver’s license and vehicle registration renewal from this RTO office in Paranur.

However, following repeated complaints that the officials in the RTO were demanding and receiving bribes from the public to clear documents, the DVAC team decided to act on them and conducted a surprise raid on Friday. The raid that began at 4 pm continued for several hours and the team also spoke to some of the members of the public to see if anyone demanded bribes from them. Investigations are on.
