Earlier, Subramani had requested for a new connection at the Medavakkam Electricity Board office. But it was alleged that the assistant engineer in the EB office had sought Rs 10,000 as a bribe to process the former's request. Subramani, who was reluctant to offer the bribe sum had informed the legal panchayat, who had approached the DVAC, Alandur. After receiving the complaint, the DVAC authorities hatched a plan to nab the EB officials who demanded a bribe. Accordingly, on Monday morning, while the Assistant Engineer was taking the phenolphthalein-laced money from Subramani, officials from the DVAC caught him red-handed.

Since, the enquiry which began at 10 a.m today by a team of 10 DVAC sleuths, is still continuing in the Medavakkam Electricity Board office, the premises were closed for public access.
