DVAC finds Rs 50 lakh more in bank locker of TN govt official

The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) sleuths on Thursday seized Rs 50 lakh unaccounted money from Chennai bank locker of S Pandian, a superintendent of the Environment department in Chennai.

Last week, the sleuths had seized Rs 1.37 crore cash and three kilograms of gold from his house in the city.

It may be recalled on December 14, based on information that the officials of Environment Department, Panagal Maligai, Chennai are indulging in corrupt activities, the DVAC team conducted a surprise check at the office of the S Pandian, Superintendent, Environment Department, in which unaccounted money of Rs 88,500 and bank account Passbook containing bank balance of Rs 38.66 lakh were seized from the Superintendent Office.

In continuation, the residence of Pandian was searched and unaccounted money of Rs 1.37 crore, 3.081 kilograms of gold, 3.343 kgs silver, 10.52-carat diamonds, fixed deposits of Rs 37 lakh and 18 property documents were seized.

On Thursday, the bank’s locker in the name of Pandian was opened and unaccounted cash Rs 50,00,500 were found in the locker, a DVAC release said.
