It was Raja (34) who came across a video on TikTok that detailed the method of brewing liquor at one’s home itself. All excited about this ‘discovery, Raja informed his friend George Joseph (31) about the recipe. From a Siddha pharmacy, they bought Kadukkai (myrobalan), Vettiver (camel grass) and jiggery, the ingredients described in the video.

As per the recipe, the duo kept the ingredients in a pot full of water for three days. Even before they distilled the concoction, they boasted to their friends as to how they have managed to make their own spirit. The word spread and soon reached the ears of Teynampet police, who immediately raided their houses.

Much to their relief – and that of the wannabe hooch makers – all they had managed to concoct was a herbal water with no alcohol content. Raja and George were taken to the station for an inquiry, but was let off with a stern warning.
