Irked by suspension, MTC staff rams bus into Adyar police station

Around 2.30 am on Thursday, Gunasekar entered the depot allegedly an inebriated state and started the bus without anyone noticing and rammed it into the police station's compound wall.

CHENNAI: A mechanic, working with Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC), angry over suspension, drove a bus from MTC’s Adyar depot and rammed it onto the compound wall of Adyar police station, right opposite the depot, early Thursday morning. No person was injured in the callous act of the MTC staff.

Gunasekaran, the technical staff, was irregular at work and departmental proceedings were initiated against him earlier, police sources said. Preliminary investigations revealed that he was upset and angry as MTC did not allow him to work for around two weeks as part of disciplinary proceedings.

Subsequently, Gunasekaran entered Adyar depot around 2.30 am on Thursday, allegedly in an inebriated state took the bus without anyone noticing, and rammed into the compound wall of the police station.

Though no persons were injured in the accident, a few two-wheelers parked outside the police station compound were damaged. MTC officials have filed a complaint against Gunasekaran.
