Drunk driver mows down woman constable on 100 feet road near Arumbakkam

Police said that Lokeshwari had crossed the road to reach a store on the other side when a rashly driven sedan knocked her down and came to a halt after crashing onto an electric police by the roadside.

CHENNAI: A woman constable suffered grievous injuries after a car mowed her down while crossing the road on 100 feet road near Arumbakkam on Monday.

The injured constable was identified as M Lokeshwari, attached to the Koyambedu traffic enforcement.

Police said that Lokeshwari had crossed the road to reach a store on the other side when a rashly driven sedan knocked her down and came to a halt after crashing onto an electric police by the roadside.

Passerby and onlookers rushed to the aid of the injured policewoman and some of them caught the car driver and handed him over to the police.

The cop was moved to Kilpauk Medical College Hosital (KMCH) for treatment and she had suffered a fracture on her right leg, police said.

The car was driven by Nandhakumar (29), a manager at a car showroom in Adyar.

Koyambedu TIW (Traffic Investigation Wing) registered a case against Nandhakumar and are investigating.
