In the 1,369 containment areas across the State, people with influenza-like illnesses are being tested for fever and chest congestion by the newly appointed health inspectors. In all, 23,829 healthcare workers have been deployed across Tamil Nadu to carry out the door-to-door screening.

“The door-to-door screening will help to identify more number of index cases with increased testing of individuals. The testing has been intensified in Chennai which has the most number of COVID-19 cases. Within the city, the screening has been initiated in Royapuram initially, as it has a high number of containment areas,” said a senior official from Directorate of Public Health and Preventive Medicine.

The healthcare staff are using mobile x-ray machines to check for chest congestion. Officials said those with comorbid conditions would be identified and taken for sample testing.
