Domestic help steals gold from employer's house in Velacherry; held

CHENNAI: The police arrested a 50-year-old woman employed as a domestic help for allegedly stealing gold jewellery from her employers' house in Velachery.

Velachery police registered a case and began investigations based on a complaint from Rajesh (52), who resides at an apartment complex here and works as a manager at a private finance firm.

On Friday, the complainant noticed that some of the gold jewellery was missing, after which he searched throughout the house and then filed a complaint. The police questioned the occupants in the house and the domestic help, who gave evasive replies.

Subsequently, the woman confessed to the theft. The woman, R Guna (50), had taken the jewellery over the last few months and pawned it.

The police recovered the 24 sovereign gold jewellery. The woman was produced before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody.
