Director SP Jananathan found unconscious, admitted to hospital

Director SP Jananathan was found unconscious and admitted to Apollo Hospital. Though the cause of his illness is not known, his assistants say that he is in a coma-like state.

He was working on a film with Vijay Sethupathi and Shruti Haasan titled Laabam.

A self-made film-maker, he always described himself as a ‘simple man’. Born and brought up in Chennai, he studied upto Class 10 before joining the film industry. He worked as an assistant to many directors before making his first film. 

His first film as director Iyarkai in won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil in 2004. S P Jananathan turned producer with the movie Purampokku Engira Podhuvudamai.
