Dalit leader John Pandian's TMMK to go it alone in Assembly polls

Dalit leader and Tamizhaga Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (TMMK) Founder P John Pandian today announced that his party would go it alone in the May 16 Assembly polls, with two fringe parties as its allies

Talking to reporters here, he said his party would contest 52 seats in the polls and the Election Commission has allotted the 'Pot' symbol to his party.

Stating that he had first contested the polls under the same symbol in 1989 at Ottapidaram, he said the EC has allotted the same symbol now.  ''We see this as the first victory for our party'', he added.

John Pandian said his party has inked a seat sharing agreement with alliance parties. Based on that the TMMK has allotted five seats to Marudham Makkal Katchi headed by former MLA Soundarapandian and two seats to Bharatiya Vikasha Shakti party.

Both the parties would be contesting the polls under the TMMK's 'Pot' symbol, he added. Claiming that none of the party would get a majority in the polls, John Pandian said his party would get its due place in the electoral history.
