Customs officials seize gold worth Rs 1 crore at Chennai airport

CHENNAI: Customs officials seized gold worth Rs 1 crore from a passenger who arrived from Dubai on Friday.

The officials were checking the passengers who arrived from Dubai on Friday night.

The officers on suspicion intercepted a 30-year-old passenger from Chennai who had travelled to Dubai on a tourist visa. During questioning, the passenger was evasive in his replies.

Following that, his belongings were taken for scanning. The officers found nothing suspicious in his luggage.

Later, when the passenger was taken for a personal search, it was found that he was carrying gold in paste form hidden inside his clothes.

The customs seized 700 grams of gold worth Rs 1 crore and arrested the passenger for further investigation.
