Commuters view live telecast of IPL matches at Metro stations: Details here

On night matches, the CMRL has planned to extend train operation upto 90 minutes.

CHENNAI: The live telecasting of IPL matches was inaugurated at Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G. Ramachandran Central metro station for Chennai metro rail passengers on Monday evening, during the match between Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

The telecast event was inaugurated by music director Devi Sri Prasad amid the presence of officials.

The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has announced that live telecast of IPL matches on a large LED screen will be shown at five metro stations such as Central, Nandanam, Vadapalani, Thirumangalam and Wimco nagar metro stations.

However, CMRL has noted that there will not be a separate fee for watching the matches, however, 'stay charges' of Rs 10 per hour at the stations would apply.

Additionally, to garner more passengers during the IPL season, CMRL has announced that fans visiting the stadium to watch the match can use the match ticket at metro stations.

"For viewers venturing to watch the cricket match in Chennai in April and May will be allowed to use their QR/barcoded entry tickets for the IPL matches as train ticket for commuting in metro trains, "stated CMRL press note.

This facility can be used for reaching and returning from the match venue through Government Estate metro station without needing to pay separate travel fare.

Additionally, to help passengers reach Chepauk stadium, CMRL has also arranged a feeder bus service from the metro station. And, during the night matches, CMRL has planned to extend train operation upto 90 minutes.

Furthermore, CMRL has made arrangements for parking at metro parking lots and the update of available parking spaces will be given to the fans during the match days.

Subsequently, CMRL has ongoing MoUs with shared transport aggregators like UBER, RAPIDO, FAST TRACK and M-AUTO/ LEGGO for provision of last mile connectivity at the following metro stations: Alandur, Koyambedu, Thirumangalam, Chennai Central, Vadapalani, Airport and Wimco Nagar.

CMRL clarified that these operators have agreed to keep their services open late in the night for IPL days and also provide advance booking facilities to enable the cricket fans to safely return to home from the respective metro stations.
