Crew stages protest after driver attacked for not stopping bus at village

The government bus drivers and conductors staged a protest at Madurantakam bus depot on Monday after one of the drivers was attacked by a group of men for not stopping the bus in their village.

The driver was attacked at Cheyyur near Madurantakam when the bus was proceeding to Uthiramerur. The police said that the driver failed to stop the vehicle at the Mudukai village bus stop. Soon, three young men on a two-wheeler chased and intercepted the bus. They went inside the bus and attacked the driver for not stopping in their village and escaped from the spot.


The driver took the bus to the Madurantakam Government Hospital and admitted himself there. Another driver from the depot was then asked to take the bus. On Monday morning, the drivers and conductors staged a protest in the Madurantakam bus depot seeking action onthe attackers.


The Transport department staff who arrived at the spot convinced them and the Madurantakam police said that one among the three, Barath (26) of Mudukai village, was arrested and search is on for other two men. Following this, they gave up the protest and started to operate the buses.
