G Prakash, Chennai Corporation Commissioner, said that there are as many as 747 marriage halls across the city and orders were issued to respective administrations under the Disaster Management Act.

“We are planning to create around 50,000 bed spaces to treat asymptomatic COVID-19 patients. Asymptomatic patients do not need intensive medical care and they can recover with proper rest. In Chennai, more than 95 per cent cases are asymptomatic cases. We will move the asymptomatic to the COVID care centres to make space for critical patients in hospitals,” he said. He added that the 4,000 beds are ready as on Sunday and the Health department had already moved some of the asymptomatic patients to DG Vaishnav College, where a COVID care centre has been created.
