Corpn seeks daily report from city hotels, Metro

In a move aimed at ensuring that the owners of hotels, convention centres and others keep their premises clean in the wake of COVID-19 upsurge across the country, the Greater Chennai Corporation has directed them to send disinfection report to it on a daily basis.

The civic body has also sent a communication to Chennai Metro Rail Ltd (CMRL) to keep ticket vending machines, ticket counters, hand railings and chairs on its premises clean by using 2.5 per cent Lysol.


“Hangings inside the trains and door handles should be cleaned after each trip. Housekeeping personnel should wear a mask, gloves and an apron before initiating disinfection process,” Chennai Corporation directed Metro Rail.


CMRL management should conduct disinfection procedures every day and send a daily report to the civic body by 4 pm.


“COVID-19 infection is transmitted through droplets, direct contact and fomites. As the number of cases is increasing in the country, it is mandatory that all the preventive measures be taken by respective stakeholder. Under section 334 of Chennai City Municipal Corporation Act, 1919, you are directed to take the following preventive measures on your premises,” read the letter.


Similar instructions have been given to the management of lodging houses, cinema theatres and convention halls. They should also report to the civic body daily.


The Chennai Corporation had recently conducted a meeting with the representatives of theatres, hotels and others and had directed them to undertake cleaning works on their premises regularly.
