Corpn invites firms to maintain public toilets

The Greater Chennai Corporation has invited firms and banks to take over the maintenance of public toilets in the city under corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative.

“The corporate firms can earn from advertising on the walls of the toilets and the banks can set up ATM kiosks,” Chennai Corporation Commissioner G Prakash said at a meeting of representatives of corporate companies held at Ripon Building.


He added that the Chennai Corporation website has the details of public toilets and the interested firms and banks can select the toilets they want to take over. Presently, the civic body maintains 853 public toilets. According to sources, a private firm, ZRII, has already been maintaining a public toilet near Panagal Park in T Nagar under corporate social responsibility initiative.


A Chennai Corporation press release stated that representatives from IOB, State Bank of India, Indian Bank, Punjab National Bank, HDFC, IDFC, CPCL, MRF, Adyar Ananda Bhavan and Woodlands had participated in the meeting.
