Cops seize 600 gm of opium worth Rs 60K, 2 men arrested

Based on a tip off about narcotics being sold at his shop, cops held a vigil in the neighbourhood.

CHENNAI: Two men including a pawnbroker were arrested for possession of opium in the city. Ice House Police seized 600 grams of opium worth Rs 60,000 from M Sohan lal (54) and M Suresh Kumar (38) of Triplicane. Lal runs a pawn shop on Samy street in Triplicane. Based on a tip off about narcotics being sold at his shop, cops held a vigil in the neighbourhood. They secured the seized goods from Lal’s shop. Investigations revealed that he smuggled the opium from Rajasthan and sold it predominantly to the north Indian population in the neighbourhood. The duo was produced before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody. Police sources said that they have CCTV footage from the neighbourhood that confirms the sales of the narcotics.
