Cops crack burglary at 2 locked houses

While burglars have been striking at houses lying locked, police busted two such offences in Gerugambakkam and Secretariat Colony and seized about 27 sovereigns, apart from arresting four persons.

In Gerugambakkam, S Prabu (39) went to his hometown on August 11 and returned a week later to find his house broken open and 20 sovereigns burgled. Mangadu police combed footage from more than 100 CCTV cameras before zeroing in on the suspects.

The accused V Surya (20) of Tiruvottiyur, E Vignesh (19) of Nerkundram and a 17-year-old were picked up and the stolen jewellery were seized. Similarly, Secretariat Colony police arrested a 49-year-old burglar and seized seven sovereigns from him. The accused S Chellappa of Egmore has more than 10 cases pending against him and has been detained four times under the Goondas Act.
