Conmen target senior citizens, two relieved of cash and jewels

Senior citizens were conned and robbed of jewels and cash in two different incidents in the city.

In the first incident, an unidentified man relieved a 93-year-old man of Rs 20,000 after offering a lift on his bike to drop him home in Kilpauk. Sadasivam of Kilpauk Garden, a retired Fisheries department official was walking to the nearby ATM from his house to withdraw his pension money on Friday. A man wearing helmet who followed Sadasivam waited for him to come out the ATM, and struck up a conversation as if he knew the man. Sadasivam thought that he could be someone known to his children, and accepted the offer by the man to drop him home on his bike.


However, after Sadasivam reached home, he found Rs 20,000 in cash missing. Based on his complaint, TP Chathiram police registered a case and have launched a hunt for the suspect with the help of CCTV footage. In another incident, a 75-year-old woman lost seven sovereigns to an unidentified duo in Kodungaiyur on Thursday night. The victim, Nirmala of Gandhi Nagar, was on her way to buy flowers when two men intercepted her and warned of anti-social elements on the prowl in the locality. In the guise of helping her, they removed her jewels and fled the spot. Kodungaiyur police have launched a hunt.
