CHENNAI: Government Railway Police on Friday arrested seven college students who created ruckus at Perambur railway station by wielding machetes and scratching them against the railway platforms.

A video of the rowdy act by the youths went viral on social media after which special teams were formed to trace them.

Railway police sources said that they had also indulged in the act in two other railway stations and caused a commotion among the commuters.

After identifying the suspects through the videos, police arrested Dhanush, Madan, Vijayakumar, Bala, Deepak Santhosh - all from a city college. Investigations revealed that the incident happened a week ago.

They were on a Arakkonam-bound train and whenever the train halted and started from the station, they kept the weapons they were carrying on the platform and created a ruckus, police said.

Police booked them on charges of creating public nuisance and acting dangerously with intent to cause harm on others. The arrested students were then let off on station bail.
