College student dies in road accident as bike rams into sewage lorry near Akkarai

According to the Adyar Traffic Investigation Wing (TIW) police, the lorry then ran over Catherine. Both she and her friend were wearing helmets, police said.

CHENNAI: A 19-year-old girl, a college student was killed in a road accident on East Coast Road (ECR) near Akkarai on Monday after a sewage tanker hit the bike she was travelling on. The deceased was identified as Catherine, a second-year student at a private engineering college. Her friend who rode the bike survived with injuries, police said. The driver of the sewage tanker had swerved right to make way for a two-wheeler which came on the wrong lane and hit Catherine's two wheeler.

According to the Adyar Traffic Investigation Wing (TIW) police, the lorry then ran over Catherine. Both she and her friend were wearing helmets, police said. Police have detained the tanker driver and have launched a search for the bike rider who came on the wrong side.

In another accident, a 25-year-old youth was killed in a road accident near KV Kuppam when his bike collided with another motorcycle. The deceased was identified as Haris Kumar, a B com graduate who works in a Youtube channel. While passing along Ennore Expressway, he lost control and collided with another motorcycle and was killed on the spot. Three of his friends are undergoing treatment for their injuries.
