First bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice MM Sundresh posted the case for compliance on September 16 as the survey has to be carried out all over the state for 6,776 Tasmac shops as per the guidelines set in the Tamil Nadu Survey and Boundaries Rules.

The plea had also sought to set aside Rule 8(1) of the Tamil Nadu Liquor Retail Vending (in Shops and Bars) rules 2003 as unconstitutional since it offered an exemption on distance restriction in areas designated as ‘commercial’ or ‘industrial’ by Town Planning Authorities.
