CMRL finishes tunnelling at Moolakadai

This is the ninth TBM breakthrough carried out by Tata Projects under the TU-01 contract. Seven TBMs were mobilised for the tunnel construction for the first 9 km underground section of corridor 3 of the Chennai Metro Rail from Madhavaram Milk Colony to Kellys.

CHENNAI: The Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) Servarayan completed 824.6 metre tunnelling work from Madhavaram High Road Station to Moolakadai station here on Tuesday.

This is the ninth TBM breakthrough carried out by Tata Projects under the TU-01 contract. Seven TBMs were mobilised for the tunnel construction for the first 9 km underground section of corridor 3 of the Chennai Metro Rail from Madhavaram Milk Colony to Kellys.

As a whole, CMRL has completed 23 TBM breakthroughs in phase 2. “The tunnel section between Madhavaram High Road and Moolakadai is complex with major challenges, such as Servarayan passing beneath Buckingham canal and under a live traffic road, more than 14 borewells along the alignment,” said CMRL.
