CHENNAI: Chief Minister MK Stalin on Thursday inaugurated completed works and laid the foundation stone for new civic and infrastructure projects across Chennai. The works are being implemented by the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) and the Metro Water Board (CMWSSB)
The Metro Water projects worth Rs 635.31 crore formed a major share of the completed works. These include a new 36-MLD sewage treatment plant at Sholinganallur, a 5-MLD plant at Villivakkam and the upgradation of the Kodungaiyur sewage treatment plant to 110 MLD capacity.
Sewer network expansion and pumping infrastructure were said to be completed across Manali, Alandur, Perungudi and Sholinganallur. Drinking water supply improvement works were also completed in parts of Valasaravakkam and Sholinganallur.
Under the GCC, 63 civic projects worth Rs 86.04 crore were inaugurated.
These include a new bridge across the Virugambakkam canal connecting residential streets in Anna Nagar zone, a new bus stand at Vinayagapuram and expansion of the Madhavaram bus stand, 12 school buildings across multiple zones, an urban primary health centre at Manali Pudu Nagar, parks, restoration of ponds, sports grounds, women's gyms, tennis and basketball courts, six gas-based crematorium platforms, four child-care centres, and a dog birth control centre in Madhavaram.
The Chief Minister also laid the foundation for new works worth Rs 335.62 crore, including a Rs 310 crore flyover on the 200-feet road between Sardar Patel Road and Guru Nanak College junction.
Indoor stadium and football ground at Manali, a sports complex at Madhavaram, and park development projects, including parks with facilities for children with disabilities, are among the other projects.
In addition, Metro Water launched projects worth Rs. 932 crore, including the expansion of the Puzhal water treatment plant from 300 MLD to 310 MLD, and works to improve continuous water supply in Adyar and Tiruvanmiyur.
