Class 2 boy dies after goal post falls on him at Avadi Air Force School

The Avadi Police have initiated an investigation against the authorities responsible for playground maintenance. Senior police officials visited the site and ordered the immediate removal of all unsafe play equipment.

CHENNAI: A seven-year-old boy died after the goalpost in a football ground near Avadi Air force Quarters fell on him on Friday evening. The deceased, R Advik, was playing with his friends when the incident happened.

Police said that the incident happened around 6 pm. The metal post, which was in a deteriorating condition, fell on the boy’s head. Adults on the sidelines watching the kids play rushed to the aid and moved him to a hospital. The boy, however, succumbed to his injuries.

Advik’s father, Rajesh, works at a private firm in Chennai. The family had moved to Muthapudupet a few years ago. The police have sealed the playground pending the completion of their investigation.

The tragic death of the youth at the playground has sent shock waves over safety in public places.
