“Due to the southeast monsoon wind in Tamil Nadu, light to moderate rain is likely to occur at isolated places in the State for the next two days. Also, there are chances for thunderstorm activities in some areas in Tamil Nadu for the next 24 hours. In Chennai, sky condition is likely to be partly cloudy, and light to moderate rain is likely to occur at some areas for the next 48 hours,” said N Puviarasan, director, Regional Metrological Centre.

The clouds that covered the city skyline brought down the maximum temperature in the city to 34.4 degree Celsius – about 3 degree Celsius less than normal. This is likely to continue for the next two days. On the other hand, at 29.1 degree Celsius, the minimum temperature was about 2 degree higher than the normal.

Puviarasan added that several districts in the State received rainfall in the last 24 hours. The highest was recorded by the station at Karaikal (3 cm), followed by Nagapattinam with 2 cm, and Salem, Ariyalur, and The Nilgiris recorded 1 cm rainfall each on Wednesday.
