Chief Secy to head task force

The state government on Tuesday formed a 16-member task force headed by Chief Secretary K Shanmugam to prevent the spread of corona virus.

“To monitor closely the preventive measures taken against the spread of COVID-19 in the state, the government constituted a task force headed by Chief Secretary. The task force will meet regularly and review the measures taken to prevent the spread of COVID-19, in the state,” said Shanmugam, in a government order, issued on Tuesday.


To prevent the spread of corona virus, the state government had gone for near complete shutdown of all the educational institutions and places where people crowd such as malls, theatres and Tasmac bars till March 31. The state government had also given detailed instructions to all the heads of state departments and district collectors on the steps to be taken to contain the spread of corona virus.


As continuation of the shutdown, the government has formed the task force in which Health Secretary will be the member secretary. Secretary of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, Municipal Administration and Water Supply, Revenue and Disaster Management, Labour and Employment, Industries, Transport, IT, Public and Rehabilitation, Commissioner of Revenue Administration, DGP, Southern Railways GM, Chairman of Chennai Port Trust, Director of Chennai Airport, Public health experts (both from government and private), Director of Medical Education, Director of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Director of Medical and Rural Health Services are the other members of thetask force.
