Chettinad Vidyashram school receives yet another hoax bomb threat, this time from fake id of top cop

The Chettinad Vidyashram school in R A Puram received an email threatening a bomb explosion in its premises on Tuesday morning. When cyber crime officials were called in, they noticed that the email was sent from a fake id claiming to be top cop Shankar Jiwal, according to a Daily Thanthi report.

CHENNAI: A hoax bomb threat to a school located in RA Puram left crime sleuths in a tizzy after they found that the threat mail was sent in the name of Director General of Police (DGP) Shankar Jiwal.

The Chettinad Vidyashram school in R A Puram received an email threatening a bomb explosion in its premises on Tuesday morning. When cyber crime officials were called in, they noticed that the email was sent from a fake id claiming to be top cop Shankar Jiwal, according to a Maalai Malar report.

Two more schools in Madipakkam and another school near Guindy too received similar bomb threat e-mails on Tuesday.

Personnel from BDDS (Bomb Disposal and Defusal Squad) were pressed into service. Police have launched a search for the prankster who forwarded the e-mail. Two more schools in Madipakkam and another school near Guindy too received similar bomb threat e-mails on Tuesday.

Last month, City police had said that they are coordinating with international agencies to probe the frequent instances of hoax bomb threats in the City. A standard operation procedure (SOP) has been issued to the schools to deal with the hoax bomb threats, police said.
