Chennai: Youth held with painkillers, ganja

CHENNAI: A 25-year-old youth, who sourced painkiller tablets from Mumbai and sold them in Chennai, was arrested by the city police. The Adyar Prohibition and Enforcement Wing (PEW) seized over 2000 tablets and 1.5 kg of ganja from the accused.

Based on a tip-off, the PEW personnel were on vigil near Saidapet railway station on Sunday and intercepted a man who was loitering suspiciously. On checking his bag, the police found painkiller tablets and ganja, after which he was secured.

The arrested person was identified as Karan (25) of Raja Pillai Thottam, T Nagar. The police seized 2,240 Tapentadol and 1.5 kg of ganja from the accused.

In another case, Villivakkam police arrested 25-year-old Srivignesh of Sivakasi, Virudhunagar district for possession of synthetic drugs on Saturday. Officials seized 7.9 gram of methamphetamine and 300 gram of ganja from the accused.

Probe revealed that Srivignesh sourced the narcotic substances from Bengaluru.

The arrested persons were produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
