Chennai: Woman electrocuted after grabbing high tension wire

A case has been registered and further investigations are on.

CHENNAI: A 52-year-old woman was electrocuted after she grabbed a high tension wire running above the terrace of her house, by accident at Manali New Town on Saturday night.

The deceased has been identified as Jayalakshmi (52). Police said that she had lived with her son, Inbaraj (35) and grandsons.

Inbaraj’s wife passed away last year and Jayalakshmi had been taking care of his sons when he was away at work, police said.

On Saturday night, she went to the terrace of her house. Because of the rains, the terrace was slippery and to balance herself, she accidentally caught hold of the electric wire to prevent her from falling, police said.

Jayalakshmi suffered an electric shock and died on the spot.

Upon receiving information, Manali New Town police rushed to the scene, recovered the body, and sent it to Government Stanley Hospital for post-mortem.

A case has been registered and further investigations are on.
