Chennai: Woman SI shoots notorious rowdy Rohit Raj after attack on cops

CHENNAI: City police opened fire on a rowdy who tried to escape after allegedly attacking two constables near Chetpet on Tuesday morning.

Sub Inspector (SI) Kalaiselvi shot at his leg and made him immobile when he attempted to flee, police said.

The accused, S Rohit Raj (34) of TP Chatram in Chennai, has about 14 pending cases against him, including three murder cases. The history-sheeter is the main accused in the murders of rowdies 'Mylapore' Sivakumar, 'Theechatti' Murugan, and Arumugam, according to a Daily Thanthi report.

Upon information that Rohit Raj was at the old cemetery in Kilpauk, a team of personnel from T P Chathram Police station headed by SI Kalaiselvi went to apprehend him in connection with a case, on Tuesday morning. 

When they rounded him up, Rohit allegedly broke a beer bottle and attacked head constables, Saravanakumar and Pradeep with it, and tried to flee.

Then SI Kalaiselvi issued a warning before shooting the rowdy on his leg and injuring him. He was apprehend subsequently.

Rohit and the injured cops were admitted to the Kilpauk Government Hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, City Police Commissioner A Arun appreciated SI Kalaiselvi for her bravery.
