CHENNAI: A 70-year-old woman and her 40-year-old son were found dead in their residence in Sholinganallur on Saturday. Police are probing the reasons behind their deaths.

The deceased were identified as Prabhu and his mother, Jeebapathy. The son and the mother lived in Anna Street in Sholinganallur, while the woman's two daughters got married and lived in other parts of the city.

Police investigations revealed that Prabhu remained unmarried and took care of his mother. He worked at a juice shop and was also trying to find a footing in the film industry for several years.

The woman was allegedly distressed over her son's situation and used to complain to neighbours about the same. On Saturday, Jeebapathy's daughter visited the home, and since the door was locked from inside and her repeated phone calls went unanswered, she alerted the police, who broke the door open and found the woman and the son lying dead.

Police suspect the two of them died by suicide. A note was recovered from the house, in which it was stated that no one was responsible for their deaths.

Semmenchery police recovered the bodies and sent them to Chengalpattu Government Hospital for post-mortem. Further investigations are under way.
