Chennai: Three held for fatally beating guest worker after drunken brawl

A drunken argument among migrant workers in Korattur turned fatal, with three cousins arrested for assault.

CHENNAI: A guest worker of a construction site was beaten to death by three of his roommates after a drunken brawl in Korattur on Tuesday night. The trio are his cousins and also worked at construction sites, police said

The deceased was identified as Ram Nath (34), a native of Uttar Pradesh. Police said that he lived with his cousin brothers – Shiv Nath (28), Maheshwar Prasad (31) and Jayalal (30) at a house in Padi Moorthy nagar.

Investigations revealed that the men worked in demolition sites in Ambattur and surrounding areas. On Tuesday night, Ram returned home in drunk and picked up a quarrel with his brothers, who tried to restrain him.

A furious Ram started assaulting them after which they ganged up and beat him together. Ram was attacked with a wooden log which led to a fatal head injury.

Alarmed, the brothers moved him to the Kilpauk Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to the injuries. Based on the information, police moved his body for post-mortem. The brothers were arrested, produced before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody.
