CHENNAI: A 24-year-old engineering student was arrested and later released on court bail after allegedly evading a breathalyser test and driving dangerously towards police personnel during a vehicle check near the Ganesh Nagar Junction on the 200-feet road in Kolathur in the early hours of Wednesday.

According to a complaint, when Special Sub-Inspector TR Ramesh of the Villivakkam Traffic Police Station and Constable Vasudevan were conducting routine checks, they signalled a blue Swift car heading towards Retteri to stop for a test.

The driver initially slowed down, but suddenly accelerated away, evading the check. When the officers pursued the vehicle to the Retteri bridge area, the driver manoeuvred the car in a threatening manner before fleeing the scene.

The police later arrested Praveen Kumar (24) of Tiruvottiyur, a final-year BTech student at a private college in Ramapuram.
