Chennai: RI seeks bribe for legal heir certificate, gets 4 years’ jail

CHENNAI: The Special Court for Anti-Corruption Cases in Chennai sentenced a Revenue Department official to four years of rigorous imprisonment for demanding a bribe to issue a legal heir certificate.

In 2014, S Krishnaveni, a resident of Old Washermenpet, had applied for a legal heir certificate at the Tondiarpet Taluk office. During the process, Revenue Inspector T Hariharan demanded Rs 30,000 to issue the certificate.

Refusing to pay the bribe, Krishnaveni lodged a complaint with the Vigilance. After a trap was set, Hariharan was arrested while accepting the bribe.
