CHENNAI: A 56-year-old man, an employee with Chennai Port who was assaulted by his son after a family dispute last week, died without responding to treatment on Saturday (August 22).

Marina police have altered the case to murder and are investigating.

The deceased was identified as J Kumar (56) of Ayodhya Nagar, Triplicane. Police said Kumar was living with his wife and son, Manikandan (33), who was unemployed and led a wayward life.

This led to frequent quarrels with Kumar. On August 17, during an argument, Manikandan pushed and assaulted his father, and injured him.

Kumar, who was already a heart patient, collapsed and fainted. His family admitted him to a nearby private hospital for treatment and Manikandan was arrested by the police.

Without responding to treatment, Kumar died on Saturday. Following his death, police altered the case to murder.
