CHENNAI: Police constable A Kothandapani staged a protest outside the Secretariat on Thursday seeking justice for his ten-year-old daughter, who developed health complications allegedly due to negligence by doctors and medical staff at the Institute of Child Health, Egmore.

The constable had staged protests several times earlier, too, in front of the state police headquarters and the secretariat. On Thursday, he also attempted to set the DMK party flag afire, police sources said. Police personnel on duty put out the fire and secured the constable.

Kothandapani (42), a head constable attached to the Otteri police station, resides in police quarters in Avadi. Police said he arrived at the Secretariat along with his daughter, Prathiksha (11), and began protesting in front of the premises.

According to Kothandapani, his daughter's feet got burned because of the wrong diagnosis and medicines given by the doctors, and she was administered dialysis without the parents' permission, after which she developed seizures.

He had earlier sought a CB-CID investigation into the alleged injustice meted out to his daughters. It is to be noted that the inquiry conducted by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) into the complaint against doctors of the Institute of Child Health and Hospital for Children in Chennai's Egmore has identified no medical negligence.
