Chennai police make 396 drug offenders sign peace bonds

Though the conviction rate against drug pedalling accused in Chennai city is very low, police claimed that they had arrested 381 drug offenders in this year so far.

CHENNAI: As part of ongoing drive against drugs, the city police had screened as many as 1,452 offenders and made 136 sign peace bonds earlier this week, taking the total number of bonds executed with drug offenders to 396.

After considering their criminal history and case records, the 136 offenders involved in ganja and drug pedalling were asked to sign a good behaviour peace bond with the deputy commissioner concerned earlier this week promising that they would not indulge in such crime and that they would lead a crime free life for the next one year.

Though the conviction rate against drug pedalling accused in Chennai city is very low, police claimed that they had arrested 381 drug offenders in this year so far.

They said that so far they had managed to execute peace bonds with 396 drug offenders during the year.
