CHENNAI: The city police on Saturday secured 12 juveniles, including school students, in connection with the murder of a Class 12 student at a government school in Tiruvottiyur.

The 16-year-old was killed by a group of students in his school led by a Class 11 student, who ganged up and attacked him at a ground near Tiruvottiyur bus terminus on Friday.

The police said that an argument between two students over who is the senior in the school escalated into the fatal attack. Police investigations revealed that the two students had a face-off on Thursday (August 13) and the school headmaster had pacified and sent them on their way.

On Friday evening, after school hours, the Class 12 student was walking back home when the rival student, who was with a group of friends at a ground near Tiruvottiyur bus stop, confronted him. The group ganged up and attacked him and fled the scene.

The injured boy was moved to the Government Stanley Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The Tiruvottiyur police have secured 12 students from the same school in connection with the boy's death.

The police said that all the boys will be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) and sent to a government home for boys.
