Covid: Chennai numbers stay above 100

The overall test positivity rate stands at 2.4%, with Coimbatore recording the highest of 5.5%.

CHENNAI: The number of fresh Covid cases in Chennai, which returned to three figures on Thursday, remained there for the second consecutive day, while another death was recorded in Chengalpattu.

The State reported 463 cases on Friday, including 103 in Chennai, 60 in Coimbatore and 46 in Chengalpattu, taking the total number of cases to 35,75,843.

A 80-years-old man from Chengalpattu, who tested positive on September 12, and was admitted to Chengalpattu Medical College Hospital, became the latest Covid fatality.

He was suffering from comorbidities, including type 2 diabetes, systemic hypertension, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and had complaints of fever, cough and difficulty in breathing.

He died on September 14, due to respiratory failure and acute respiratory distress syndrome.

With this, the State has so far reported 38,040 deaths. The overall test positivity rate stands at 2.4%, with Coimbatore recording the highest of 5.5%.

There now are 4,820 active cases, including 2,777 in Chennai. Also, 436 people were declared recovered.
