CHENNAI: The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has decided to discontinue the issuing of monthly parking passes from February 1 due to increasing demand for parking at Metro stations, said a communique issued by CMRL.

Parking spaces are available to passengers on a first-come-first-serve basis only at all Metro stations. Monthly parking passes already purchased in January 2025 will be permitted till their validity expires.

As reported earlier, CMRL plans to discontinue the top up facility for its Travel card from April 1 to completely switch over to Singara Chennai Card-National Common Mobility Card (SC-NCMC) issued by SBI. The SC-NCMC was introduced on April 14, 2023, in addition to the Travel card (contactless smart cards). Now, CMRL has planned to discontinue the top up facility for the Travel card in phased manner in all 41 stations.

In first phase, it plans to discontinue the sale and top-up of Travel card at New Washermenpet, Kaladipet, Tiruvottiyur, Theradi, Nandanam, Little Mount, OTA – Nanganallur Road, Meenambakkam, Egmore, Kilpauk and Shenoy Nagar stations. Passengers heading to the ticketing counter for top-up are advised to exhaust the remaining value in their cards by commuting in Metro trains or use Metro parking, and also buy a Singara Chennai card for further usage. The above process shall be extended to other Metro stations in phased manner, added the statement.
