Chennai: Man held on abetment charges after girl kills self

CHENNAI: Chennai Police have arrested a 25-year-old man on charges of abetment to suicide after the death of his girlfriend at his residence in Choolaimedu on Saturday. The arrested person was identified as Harish Kumar.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the student, Pooja (24), argued with her boyfriend about getting married. While the boyfriend was keen on a court marriage immediately, the woman wanted to finish her studies.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that the couple had been in a relationship since school. After an argument on Saturday, she went into a room and locked herself inside. When she did not come out for several minutes, the door was forced open, and she was found unconscious.

Harish's parents alerted Pooja's parents, and they first visited his home and then the hospital and learnt that Pooja had died by suicide, after which they filed a police complaint.
